With so many uses, lemon is a great fruit to have in the house on a daily basis.
For the Inside of the Body
Starting each day with a glass of lemon water before breakfast provides many benefits for the day ahead. It restores alkalinity in the body, helping to bring a balance of pH. Lemon activates the digestive system, preparing it to consume the first meal of the day. The juice of lemons also promotes healthy skin with its high concentration of vitamins A and C. In addition, it breaks down mucus, clearing the sinus passages.
For the Skin
Lemon can be used topically on the skin as well. Lemons are cleansing and antibacterial, so when mixed with oils and water, they make a great facial toner or hand sanitizer. Depending on what other ingredients are used, this cleanser can be made as a spray or as wipes. There are many great recipes on the Internet for this.
For Cleaning
Because lemons are a natural antibacterial, using them for cleaning is a toxic free way to disinfect a home. One way to do this is to mix some lemon juice with distilled water, tea tree oil and organic vinegar for a safe and effective cleaner for countertops and bathrooms.
For a Mattress
Here at My Green Mattress, we know that lemon can even be used when cleaning a mattress. Though it is important not to saturate a mattress with anything wet, you can make a paste using lemon juice and salt to treat stains. After testing this on a small spot, apply the mixture to the stain, and let it stand for 30–60 minutes. Then, wipe off the paste with a clean towel and allow to dry fully before covering back up with your mattress protector and bedding.
